OUR STORY

In 1995 we bought our tired, red, classic New England cape-style home, and in setting up our new email address established the name “BigRedAcres.”  Our property is not that big - only about 3 acres - but it’s ours, and we love it!  The property is open and abuts an adjacent field on one side and our neighbor’s land with a small barn on the other.  The property was home to a couple of horses in the 1970’s, and Jennifer couldn’t wait to have one in the back yard.  By 1997 the horse was here!  But because of time constraints and a lack of accessible riding areas, in a few years we no longer had the horse.

So as the kids grew older, Jen thought about the future and how much she missed the outdoor life and the care of animals - enter the alpaca.  It all seemed to make sense and fit our lifestyle and property so well. Alpacas are gentle animals, are easy to care for and are much easier on the pasture. We invested countless hours at seminars, shows, and farms to find our start in December 2005 with three high-quality young males now fondly referred to as The Three Amigos.
